Autumn choors / efterårspligter

Autumn is pickle and knitting season - well every season is knitting season...... but... you know what I mean. All the fruits of the garden is to be harvested, planning for next year is to be made and warm accesories in warm colours and Christmas presents are to be knitted.
To begin with a cast on for a gorgeous cowl in warm colours for my self to use in the passing from summer to autumn, but alas my shoulders are too wide. But Luckily my 8-year old daughter fell instantly in love with this autumn accesorie. Now I am planning to do matching wristwarmers with the leftover yarn.

Efterår er sylte og strikke sæson - ja okay, alle årstider er strikke sæson, men... I ved hvad jeg mener. Frugterne i haven skal plukkes, næste års have skal planlægges, varmt tilbehør i varme farver og julegaver skal strikkes.
Til at starte efteråret med, slog jeg en lækker skuldervarmer op på pindene. Egentligt ment til mig selv, som overgangstilbehør fra sommer til efterår, men ak - jeg har alt for brede skuldre..... Men heldigvis forelskede min 8-årige datter sig straks i den. Jeg planlægger nu at lave matchende håndleds handsker i restegarnet.

Last plums of the season

The plum tree in my new garden gave a very limited harvest - but it took every single beautiful plum home with me.

Blommetræet gav en noget begrænset høst i år - men jeg plukkede dem alle og tog dem med hjem.

Then I roamed my recipes for delicious ideas for plums to put in my newly purchased glasses from Isabella Smith

Så bladrede jeg rundt i alle mine opskrifter for at finde en lækker en af slagsen, så jeg kunne få de gode blommer på glas fra Isabella Smith

"Den Grønne Syltebog" provided me with a delicious regular recipe and this homepage one with almonds and cinnamon - think it will be just perfect for Christmas morning - made plenty so of course other mornings will be full of joy of plums as well.

A Late Summers Dream of Apples

It's Autumn and pickle season is picking up. The newly purchased garden have some great fruit trees - and I have to make the most of them, since the season is almost out.

Efterår er sylte/henkognings årstid - og jeg er fluks gået i gang. Min nye have har fantastiske frugttræer og jeg må skynde mig at få en masse ud af dem inden sæsonen slutter.

Without bragging - I can say that I have the most beautiful apple espalier in the area. Think it is Discovery apples

Uden at prale kan jeg sige at jeg har haveforeningens flotteste æble espalier - tror det er Discovery æbler, men jeg afventer en gardner dom ;-)

Picked a bagful of apples and hurried home to make Apple Chutney:

Plukkede en posefuld æbler og skyndte mig hjem og lavede æble chutney:

750 gr apples - pealed and chopped         750 gr. skrællede æbler i tern

1 large onion - pealed and chopped          1 stort løg skåret i ringe

25 gr. fresh ginger - grated                       25 gr. revet, frisk ingefær

50 gr. dried apricots - chopped                50 gr. tørrede abrikoser i tern

1 cinnamon stick                                      1 stang kanel

4 cloves                                                   4 hele nelliker

100 gr. cane sugar                                   100 gr. rørsukker

2 tbl spoons curry                                    2 spiseskefulde karry

1,7 dl vinegar                                           1,7 dl eddike

oil                                                            olie



 Fry oil and curry shortly. Add the rest of the ingredients and boil with lid on for 1 hour. Pour onto glasses.. Enjoy with chicken or fish


Varm olie og karry til karryen begynder at dufte. Tilsæt resten af ingredienserne. Lad koge under låg i 1 time. Hæld på varme atamon skyllede glas. Nyd til fisk eller kylling.

Scope creep.......

During summer I got the opportunity to purchase an allotment garden with a little cute house. It was offered to me cheap, and I did not have the greatest expectations..... but wauw was my worries put to shame...... This is what met my eyes:

I løbet af sommerferien fik jeg tilbudt en billig kolonihave med et fint hus på. Det var super billigt, så forventningerne var ikke høje, men dette var hvad der mødte mit øje:

The garden is disasterous and really mistreated - but I will turn it all around in time - before and after pictures to follow. And I didn't really get a good picture of the house from the outside that day... so those follow as well. But I bought it on the spot - no questions asked.

Haven er en katastrofe - men det skal jeg nok få vendt til det bedre med tiden. Før og efter billeder følger. Jeg fik ikke taget nogen gode billeder af huset den dag, så de følger også. Men jeg købte det på stedet.

 
And that's why the scope of the blog has changed - my hobby horizon has expanded ;-)

Og derfor omfatter min blog nu meget mere. Min hobby horisont har udvidet sig. 

Socks rock and a vests are best....

So I actually managed to finish a project that requires stitching.....

This vest has a really tight and snug fit - I love it - it's perfect to wear to work with a fitted shirt - brings a bit of umpf to a black shirt. The patterns is Vestpa from Samantha Roshak  who also has a gorgeous web site worth visisting: Knit Quest.

I liked the Tapestry yarn for this project.

I also FINALLY finished a pair of Drops socks that I cast on on my trip to Vegas i September 2009!

I think I got stuck in this project, because I didn't really like how the heel turned out on the first sock. As you can see from the picture below - the heel edges turned out really bulky and rugget. All in all I had my challenges with this type of pattern where you knit with two strands of yarn at a time - it didn't come out very flat.... but rather constrained... I am deterined to get better at this and to LOVE knitting socks. So if anyone out there has any hints, as to how these projects turn out nice and flat - please don't hold back - let me in on the secret!!!

I furthermore discovered, that getting the Little Knits newsletter - ain't excactly making my stash any smaller!! But hey - who ever dies with the most yarn wins - Right?

As I mentioned - I am determined to LOVE knitting socks - so I started off ordering great sock yarns and signed up for The Great Sock off 2011 - maybe that'll teach me.....

Saved by the yarn pusher...........

Just as I had almost given up on finishing the cute baby cardi for rmy colleagues 3 weeks old baby girl - a phone call to Garnstuen, on Østerbro in Copenhagen, revealed that the missing ball of Muskat was just around the corner from my workplace - I know, I kniw it was my own fault. I started a project even though I knew I might be short on yarn, I was too stubborn to pay double the price of the yarn to have it sent to my door step from an on-line store. But - I got the one skein I was short - finished the project in 15 minutes - just in time to hand it over to the new owner.

And before the needles got cold, I cast on a new project...... no pictures yet - but it starts with Cascade 220 :-)

February ChallengeS......

Before throwing my self at the newly purchased yarn - I finished up some 22,5 degrees. Blocking the project over the weekend left me with an absolutely gorgeous shawl - I am delighted it's still cold outside so I get to wear it for a month or more :-)

The pattern is another Ravelry stroke of genious and the pattern is available here.

I used just under 2 skeins of Aslan Trends Bariloche. The border is actually knitte scallops - I never did scallops knitted before - only chrochet - so this became my February challenge to my self. I used the designers own video tutorial on the You Tube to get the border right - it was surprisingly easy and I love the look of it :-)

Then for another challenge - I'm knitting a birthday gift for a colleague who had a baby 3 weeks ago. I fell in love with the Little Coffe Bean Dream and decided to knit it in leftover Drops Muskat on dusty rose and brown - and then.... I ran out of Brown (22) when the only thin left to knit is the buttonhole ribbing - arghhh. So I went on line and looked for it - found it on several on-line stores - so whats the big problem? you might want to ask - let me tell you: the problem is that I am cheap! The one skein of yarn i need costs DKK 26 (app. USD 4,25) but the postage is going to cost me DKK 56 (app. USD 10) - more than the doubls the price of the yarn to have it brought to my doorstep! No way - Jose! So now I have to roam the streets of Copenhagen looking for just that one skein that will make my little Coffe Bean Dream perfect - before Baby grows out of it - Now that's a challenge!
